RE: Jefferson City, MO to Mission TX

54 to 71 to 540 to 540/71 to 71 to 59 @ Texarkana to I10 to Sam Houston Pkwy (toll road) @ Houston to 59 to 77 @ Victoria to 83. We do the I10 to 83 drive every year. Depending upon where in the RGV you are going - we go to Donna - we get on 186 @ Raymond then south on 493. A bit shorter and avoids 83 around Harlingen.

RE: Is it really worth it?

IMHO, probably not. Seems the dealers are not going to these shows like they were in the past. It is expensive for them to rent space plus transporting RVs to/from, personnel, etc. And, truly, I don't think you get any special deals there. And, they usually only bring the new models. I would recommend doing your research from home and find what you want.

RE: Spiders! (Eeeeewwwww!)

Our bug man told us that to get rid of spiders you had to get rid of their source of food, i.e., other small bugs. Get some of that DIY household bug spray and use it as directed regularly and they should disappear. He said it is almost impossible to get rid of spiders otherwise. It does seem to work that way - with all the remodeling here the past few, we suspended the spraying and now have spiders where we didn't before. Oh, well, back to spraying!!

RE: Hillman Ferry Campground

Hillman's has very few lakefront sites - none of them are reservable. The most are in section C1, #11,16,19 are the best. These are right across the street from the bathhouse. The absolutely best IMHO, is #40, in the C3 section. It is fairly isolated, level with the lake and large but about a block from the restrooms, no showers. If you are there when shade is not important, as in late Oct., C# #36 & 38 (38 is best) are on the bluff with a wonderful 360 view of water. Both sites are small but 38's door side is the view side. The sites that are reservable also have FHU and some are pull-thrus but no water view at all. If I can help with any more info, PM me. You are in our stompin' grounds there!!

RE: Splindide Washer/dryer - in my 2001 Dynasty

As Roadside said. A load of towels takes 90 minutes in my 2100. That load is 2 fairly heavy bath towels, 5-6 wash cloths, 1-2 hand towels, a couple of kitchen towels and dish cloths.

RE: can a cat smother a kitten

I agree - you need to find some way to keep them from getting on the bed. It would be accidental, but a likely outcome since the little one cannot push hard enough to get out from under.

RE: Dinette Light Fixture

Or if, as in my case, there is truly nothing but a hole there, cut a small piece of thin wood a little longer than the space it needs to span, put glue on it, insert it so that the glue side rests on the back side of the present surface. Wait for glue to dry and put original screws back in through that wood.

RE: Ferry, Brownsville to Progreso

We've been the valley for 5 winters now - no such ferry. There is a riverboat cruise out of Mission but that is the only cruise boat I know of. There is a ferry at Ebanos for foot passengers only - you can even help pull it over, if you like. The RG at that point is about 50-60 ft wide. No town on the other side for a couple of miles or so.

RE: What breed of dog is that?

We get a lot of inquiries about Katie. She is a miniature Australian Shepherd (or North American Shepherd officially since 1992). We even get inquiries about Maggie who is Chihuahua through & through!

RE: Camping with a dog . . . is it hard to do

She (?) looks a lot like our Katie - Thanks for giving her a home. You will just have to check with each location. Some allow dogs, some don't. We've camped at COE, NFS and National Parks cgs and had no problems. And KY allows them at the state parks.

RE: Problem with my Lab, need help/advice

How far are you from Ames IA? The Iowa State University Veteranary School there is ranked one of the best in the country, I understand. They certainly did a top notch job when we had to take Katie there after she was hit by a car.

RE: Camping cat - where to ride?

After seeing a couple of TTs & 5vers after an accidents (not much left) and knowing how noisy, bouncy riding in a 5ver can be (I got caught in 5ver when Don moved to a spot in a bumpy parking lot) plus knowing how some skittish some cats can be and being very concerned with animal welfare issues, I favor transporting pets in the TV. HOWEVER, after saying all that, I must say that Sam was such a bad rider in a crate in the truck (howled the whole time!) and was obviously not happy, so I wound up putting her in the closet with her litter box, bed & food (gave her water at frequent stops). She was so happy with that arrangement that she often would not come out for hours after we were stopped for the night. In the MH, she is allowed to find her own spot which is usually under the sofa or the kitchen sink cabinet but sometimes just curled up under the Euro recliner.
